November 2008 - What's News?

As ever things tick along and here are a few things for you consider. Please check back soon as I hope some major updates in the not too distant future.

  • Just heard from Bexley Council that it looks like I will be running a number of workshops next year covering all aspects of guitar playing, band playing and songwriting - more to follow but email if you want more details
  • Exam results are in for all you good people who took them in July. If I have not got to you yet please call or email for results. A record year with 72 students passing RGT grade exams. Congratulations to Chris Lee for passing grade 8 Bass, so off to music college you go.

    I heard at the Registry of Guitar Tutors annual conference that I was one of the two beaten finalist for the Guitar Tutor of the Year Award. The award is based on the number of successful grade passes in one acedemic year, so thanks to all you students for working so hard! Picture above is me receiving my award from Neville Marten Editor of Guitar Techniques.

  • Check out the Betsy Trottwood pub London EC1 for The Lantern Club - a new music venue for modern folk. Friends who used to be Indigo Moss - who are now Trevor Moss and Hannah Lou host the evening and are there every other Thursday.
  • Plans are already being made for The bexley Festival Danson 09, interested to hear from those who want to perform but can make no promises at this time
  • Due to pressures in other areas I have handed the SpeakEasy over to Tony Freeman. It still runs in The Old Wick Bexley every Wednesdy so check it out.
  • Marathon doen but not a very impessive time, 5hrs 55mins odd - no one believes that I liked it so much I took my time! Never again, well not until next year.
  • A big thank you to Joe Amplett who got me on national radio last week for those of you awake at 3am on Sunday I hope you enjoyed it! maybe there again soon. (See Joe on http://www.myspace.com/amphlettcandy)
  • The RGT is launching a series of Acoustic Guitar grades, I wll be offering them from January 2008.
  • A big hello to whoever logged on to the site from Serbia and Spain recently!
  • Lessons are in full flow - news of next years student concert will soon be published.
  • Just got back from a week's song-writing workshop with the Ray Davies, so full of new ideas.
